Dyslexia assessment and study support for universities

A student may be managing lectures but struggling with reading lists, written assignments, revision or independent study. DTC offers dyslexia assessments and cognitive learning profiles to help clarify needs, alongside practical study skills and aftercare.

We welcome enquiries from disability services, wellbeing teams and education providers about suitable referral routes. Students can also contact us directly for assessment and study support.

A diagnostic dyslexia assessment explores whether dyslexia explains the person’s reading and spelling difficulties. A cognitive learning profile can explore learning needs where someone already has a diagnosis or needs a clearer picture of their strengths and challenges.

Discuss the purpose and evidence requirements with DTC before referring. These routes are different from a clinical ADHD or autism assessment.

Our study skills support can help with organising assignments, reading and note-taking, revision planning, starting tasks and managing deadlines. Support begins with the demands of the student’s course and the areas they find difficult.

A diagnostic dyslexia assessment and a Disabled Students’ Allowance needs assessment are different processes. For England, Student Finance guidance specifies diagnostic evidence from a practitioner psychologist or suitably qualified specialist teacher for specific learning difficulties.

Students should check their funding body’s current requirements and speak to their university disability team before booking. Eligibility, funding and university support decisions are made by the relevant bodies.
